About the project

La Bible en ses Traditions (The Bible in Its Traditions) is a research programme of the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem. For over twenty years the École has built an annotated Bible that brings text, traditions, and reception into dialogue.

Contribution to history

This is not “yet another translation.” The project brings Scripture and living Tradition into dialogue: parallel ancient versions (Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Syriac…) and layered annotation — Text, Contexts, and Reception across centuries (patristics, liturgy, art, music, literature).

From the ancient scroll to a digital gloss, the programme continues a transmission that has always been interactive: as Gregory the Great wrote, Scripture “grows with its reader.”
